Harp Music Goes To A New Level With Merry Miller

Harp music goes to a new level with Merry Miller. She is famous all over the world for the successful albums she has released with her soothing music played on the harp. These albums have been mostly divided into those for adults and those for children. The ones released for children have been very popular throughout the US, especially among celebrities. Nothing would be more appreciated by a parent than a set of music CD’s that will soothe and calm their toddler. The success of these music albums have been almost inevitable considering how Miller goes about managing the whole process. The businesswoman that she is, Miller has always been able to make challenging decisions with the maximum success. She had a ‘creative team’ of below 2 year old’s that would help her decide what music would work for children of that age and what wouldn’t. Merry Miller focuses on highest possible quality. With the continuous stream of high quality music that she has released over the years, her fans and critics have come to expect the best from her. The Rolling Stones magazine described her music as being the most beautifully recorded ones. They continue to receive musical perfection from the harpist. Miller’s passion for music has been there right from early days. Even now, when she is a successful businesswoman, she continues to play the harp on weekends. For someone who started off playing the instrument free of cost in local parties, Miller has achieved a lot. Her success in both the music and corporate world has not gone unnoticed. She has topped the various lists that magazines and media watchers release regularly. She reached the ’40 under 40′ list of Cairn’s for her contribution to the Learning Annex. Miller managed to improve the earnings of the company in her post of EVP from just 3 million USD to more than 100 million USD in a couple years only. This level of business intelligence has helped her manage well her musical career and also the future of the companies she has dealt with. She is able to be charismatic and persuasive with celebs of high rank which helps her get them for talks with the students of the Learning Annex. It’s this charisma that also helps her interview and talk to celebs on popular talk shows that gets the attention of the audience.

Harp Wedding Music

Steeped in History, of Persian origin, it has been intrinsic to Gaelic and folk traditions for centuries Harp music has entertained everyone from royalty to peasantry and was the traditional instrument of the Bards or Planxties of Celtic culture who were charged to honour their clans by recording Histories and great deeds in music. Forever a symbol of Ireland, when played well its music is calming, peaceful and romantic; a perfect choice for a Wedding.
The will usually have a repertoire which stretches from Classical music and Hymns to Pop music and Show Songs. The best advice is to ask your harpist for their repertoire or make some suggestions for your . Some popular choices, however, are as follows:

          ]]>

Through The Eyes of Love – Hamin
Some Enchanted Evening – Rogers & Hammerstein
La Vie en Rose – Louieguy
Cannon in D – Pachelbel
Bridal Chorus (Here Comes The Bride) – Wagner
Air from Water Music – Handel
Music of the Night (Phantom of the Opera) – Andrew Lloyd Webber
18th Variation on the Theme of Paginini – Rachmaninov
Ave Maria – Shubert
Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring – J.S Bach
All I Ask Of You (Phantom of the Opera) – Andrew Lloyd Webber
Trumpet Voluntary – Clarke
Hornpipe (from ‘Water Music’) – Handel
Hawaiian Wedding Song – King
Edelweiss (Sound of Music) – Rodgers & Hammerstein
Wedding March – Mendelssohn
Barcarolle (from Les Contes d’Hoffmann) – Offenbach
Ode To Joy – Beethoven

In addition to sounding great, the harp will also look fantastic at your event. Elegant and delicate as the instrument is, more often than not, the harpist will match! A popular choice is to add a flute to play with the harp as a duo. Look here for information on a. A solo harpist or the duo could be hired as a great alternative to the traditional for the ceremony, or either would be equally fitting providing background music for a champagne reception or photo session. In whatever the capacity, when planning your event a wonderful additional feature is harp wedding music.

Harpists Harp Music – Music That Moves Between Worlds

Does music matter? In these days of great uncertainty, should we concern ourselves with anything beyond surviving? To me, music is a life-saver, giving comfort, hope and connection when we feel so lost…

“Raised on Celtic bardic tales in Ireland and myths of Persephone, Aphrodite and Apollo on Cyprus, I have been led by the harp between worlds. Our life journey resonates with the harp’s ancient voice, exploring the tension between myth and reason, the conscious and unseen, material and spiritual. Echoes from all who have come before us and through us live again through music: our teachers and guides.”

Diana Rowan’s playing has been described as having “unusual power and beauty.” Born in Ireland, she lived and studied on the East Coast, in Europe and the Middle East before settling in Berkeley, California, where she received her Master of Music degree. Each country has left a strong impression on Diana’s music, which interweaves Celtic, Eastern European, Near Eastern and classical arts and mythology. Performing worldwide (from the Australian Harp Festival to the Smithsonian to Eastern European cathedrals), teaching and recording frequently, Diana can be heard on many CDs and soundtracks for film and TV, including her two solo albums Panta Rhei and The Bright Knowledge. She currently splits her time between the San Francisco Bay Area and Eastern Europe, working on a doctorate in harp composition at the National Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria. Diana believes strongly in the healing power of music and plays often in hospitals and healing centers as a member of Healing Muses. www.dianarowan.com

          ]]>

“I was born to tough Belfast folk who for many generations have placed the arts as a high calling. My parents were attending Trinity College in Dublin when I appeared, so I grew up amongst questioning minds, literature, lots of singing and storytelling. Just a few years later we would start to travel the world with my father’s job, opening my eyes to both the similarities and differences in how people approached life. My music is a direct result of this – searching for core truths as to what it means to be human, while exploring the variations therein. Although I grew up hearing many different languages, music was the one that cut through everything and was understandable whether I was in sedate Brussels or ancient Baghdad.

Myth is the other path I travel in my search, where huge libraries of knowledge are distilled and voices from the past speak to us once more. These voices can echo similar themes, even from wildly divergent locations, much like music. Poetry in particular is a huge source of inspiration for me – the intersection of words and music. Essentially, I’m trying to look for what’s real through the unseen but very present – music and myth.”

“Which is first – breadth of repertoire or musicianship? No matter. The sum total will titillate even the most jaded audience. Diana is an astounding – playing pieces that range from inspired traditional-based tunes to improvisational skin-prickling scats. Consider it a blessed time, to have this music seep into your being.” Anne Emerick, Wisteria Ways concert series, Oakland CA

Paul Winter: Music for “Gentle People”

Ask most record label owners who their audiences are, and they’ll most likely start talking demographics—age, sex, race and so on.

But not Paul Winter. When asked who the audience is for the Paul Winter Consort his Living Music Label, he pauses and says, “Our audience tends to be gentle people.” He adds, “They’re not really people with the attitude that they have to be in on the latest trend. Our music has a timeless quality.”

That timelessness has led to six Grammy awards, as well as the Global 500 Award from the United Nations, the Award of Excellence from the United Nations Environment Program, the Peace Abbey’s Courage of Conscience Award, the Joseph Wood Krutch Medal from the United States Humane Society and the Governor’s Distinguished Arts Award from the State of Pennsylvania.

Winter has played in over 2,000 concert halls, and has played Washington’s National Cathedral, the palace of the Crown Prince of Japan, and the Grand Canyon.

All this has won the Paul Winter Consort an extensive international fan base, including fans that have followed the Consort for over three decades.

          ]]>

Living Music was Winter’s foray into the world of independent music marketing long before the internet made self-marketed recordings common. Winter says, “We found ways to function outside the realm of the usual major label environment.”

It didn’t hurt that the Paul Winter Consort was offered a residency at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. The Dean of St. John the Divine said the Consort could do anything they wanted as artists-in-residence, and thus began the now legendary Winter Solstice concerts, which have drawn crowds for thirty-two years. These concerts feature a huge gong, a descending globe of the earth, a holiday tree made of percussion instruments, and most importantly, new renditions of Consort classics, as well as surprising arrangements of Bach and pieces from new releases. The gentler, perhaps more intimate Summer Solstice concerts began later. These begin at 4:30 in the morning as the Consort welcomes in the sunrise.

So the “gentle people” keep coming out, and an expanding audience that doesn’t care whether this is jazz or New Age music learns of the Paul Winter Consort steadily.

The Grammy people keep putting Winter in the “New Age” category, while others, such as the Blue Note’s Jazz Interview Series recognize his contributions to jazz. Then again, Winter often builds on folk music from around the world (his production of Pete Seeger’s Pete won a Grammy in 1996).

So what to call it? This Examiner thinks Winter’s audience probably loves the Beatles, because each album offered surprises, forays into different genres, and growth. In fact, George Martin, legendary producer of the Beatles, said his production of the Paul Winter Consort’s Icarus was, “the finest record I have ever made.”

Not that the consort is anything like the Beatles. But the same experimentation, exploration and sense of wonder pervades Consort albums and concerts. Winter offers moments of intense cello-driven introspection, followed my audience sing-alongs and finely crafted small-combo jazz. Then there are simply moments of unclassifiable music. Perhaps it is best to call it Paul Winter music.

Clean Up Track Names in iTunes – How To Tidy Up Your Music Library

So you’re an iTunes user? You might notice that your music library has some details which need to be filled up, and there might be songs which do not have titles, or even misspelled titles. You can edit them manually, entering details one by one and completing album artworks at the same time, but isn’t that too tedious for you? What if you have thousands of songs? You can complete them, but it would take months to do so.

This may be irritating, especially if there are too many of them. Worse, you might find it hard to search for a song because it is titled “Track 01″ or its “Unknown”. You may even have to listen to the song first before you figure out what is its title. But what if you have no idea what is that song’s title? It only means that you have to using a cleanup tool.

Application software like cleanup tools does not rely on existing song details to find a match or title for a song. So, don’t worry if your song details aren’t complete. Song titles which are missing can be completed using acoustic fingerprinting. This technology relies on an online song database which matches audio signals. This will result to an exact match, since all audio signals are distinct.

          ]]>

Now here are some software which can clean up your iTunes music library in a jiffy.

Rinse (also known as Tidysongs) – it is probably the most popular iTunes cleanup tool in the market. For around dollars, it can delete duplicates, clean up track names and other song details, and find missing album artwork. All of these are done automatically, so before you know it, your iTunes music library is more aesthetically appealing than before, and categorizing and indexing songs are much easier.
TuneUp – this iTunes plug-in also cleans up duplicates, completes missing song details, repairs wrong metadata and fills up your cover flow with complete album artwork. It also provides you more background information about the song, artist or album as you play.
SongGenie – this one works best with Mac. It also cleans up track names, correct misspelled details.
CoverScout – it completes album artwork for you.
iEatBrainz – this is a freeware that Mac lovers would surely appreciate. It has the capabilities of a paid iTunes clean up tool.

Most of these clean up tools have a price, and here are some tips on how you can find the best of them:

Compare their prices. Are they priced reasonably?
Read consumer reviews. Unsolicited reviews are more reliable than paid ones. If a software has more positive reviews, then it may be a good one, but does not work for all.
Take advantage of free trials. Most of these software have free trials, and try them. If it works well for you, then purchase it. If not, choose another software to try.

Those are just some tips to track names. It is up to you if you will use them.

Music for Corporate Entertainment

For many years I have supplied music for and played in bands that
provide music for corporate entertainment. Clients have included Audi,
The Evening Standard, Sainsburys, P.C. World, Safeways, Large corporate
clients at Henley and Ascot, I.T.V. and H.M. Treasury. Because of this
experience I felt it would be relevant in putting down some pointers in
helping clients choose the right kind of music for their particular
corporate entertainment.

Interestingly enough, most corporate hospitality entertainment work
tends to require music as an ingredient to a larger recipe. What I mean
by this is a great deal of corporate events are offering a multi
service package. Typically an organization may be putting on an
evenings entertainment to thank its workforce for a particularly
successful year. They may be offering music, food, comedy, a close up
magician, a casino and a caricaturist. The corporate client organizing
needs to decide what part the music has to play in the days/evenings
entertainment.

Questions he or she needs to ask are:

Is the music specifically for entertainment or is the music for background listening?

Do we need one style of music early on in the proceedings and then a change of style later in the days/ evenings entertainment?

Do you expect the corporate clients to be networking and discussing business or are they just there for a good time?

What overall atmosphere do you want to project with the event?

Is there going to be a change of location for the music as the entertainment event unfolds?

Different styles of music bands lend themselves to different
corporate hospitality situations. Below are a number of typical
corporate hospitality events with music suggestions for suitable music
entertainment.

Corporate entertainment model 1.
Evening reception with dinner and speeches.

In a situation such as this you will typically need music from the
outset as part of the meet and greet of the corporate evening. A
four-piece swing or Latin group is ideal with a larger ensemble for
particularly large gatherings. A professional outfit can pitch the
music at just the right decibel level so your guests can talk and enjoy
the entertainment without it encroaching on conversations. The
musicians would typically be dressed in Lounge Suits or Tuxedos (or the
female equivalent) to mirror what the guests are wearing themselves.
The music portrays an atmosphere of sophistication, which again
hopefully reflects the evenings overall ambience.

It is rare for corporate clients to want to dance especially as
clients there relationship is business not pleasure! In most cases it
is more important that the band is flexible in when it is needed over
the course of the evening i.e. At the top of the night for the
reception, a smaller version of the band (The pianist maybe for the
dinner), stopping for speeches and then after the speeches to play
until other entertainment is put on for the corporate clients. In this
situation give the band a clear idea of how you expect the evening to
go. What to wear, when they will be needed, when they need to get their
instruments in the building and be set up, when breaks will be
required, let them know if it is convenient or not to feed them and
then finally how they can leave when finished so as not to disrupt the
rest of the entertainment.

          ]]>

Corporate entertainment model 2.
Company Party.

Still corporate entertainment, still corporate hospitality but a
totally different set of requirements for the music. Ask yourself these
questions: Are your work force the type of workforce who will want to
dance at some point in the proceedings? If they are, then a
professional band with flexibility is essential. My experience is that
people of all ages will join together to dance to music from the
sixties and seventies. Whatever background music you require earlier in
the day/evening be it Latin, Swing, Rat Pack or Lounge, if you are
hoping to provide entertainment that will get people dancing remember
this fact. Sixties and Seventies. For some inexplicable reason this is
the music that gets people up on their feet.

When choosing your music ask the band if they can cover this part of
the corporate entertainment requirement. Get samples of their music if
need be. There is nothing worse than an ill equipped band struggling
through alien repertoire. However good the band is, if they do not play
the right repertoire, the right style of music then the corporate
entertainment will fall on deaf ears.

Let me at this point provide a caveat. Your workforce work together
They are not always going to be the best of friends however
professional their relationships are at work. Answer truthfully, will
they really want to dance together or is it asking too much? I would
say that in all the years of providing music for this kind of corporate
entertainment / hospitality , as long as the music is right, the
workforce tended to dance 30 or 40% of the time. It could be said that
a workforce who will enjoy each others company in this way is a
reflection on the talent of senior management to create a happy team!

Corporate entertainment model 3.
Company Fun Day.

These come in two types. The type to entertain your own workforce or
the type to entertain prospective clients. Both types of corporate
entertainment require music that is fun. This means that the music must
be perceived as fun and the band must be perceived as fun. In both
cases Jolly Dixieland Jazz or the summer sounds of Latin music are most
suitable.

Ask yourself these questions: does the band need to be mobile?
Meaning do you want the music to move around the site at various points
in the proceedings? If so then the jolly jazz route is most suitable. A
good professional outfit of four or five players can play acoustically
and move around a site as directed.

If the band can be static and close to electrical power then either Jolly Jazz or Latin Music is suitable.

Is the event outdoors or indoors and do you have provision for bad
weather? This is England, never trust to luck, assume the worst! Any
band that needs power cannot play in the rain for health and safety
reasons. At the first hint of inclement weather a band will have to
breakdown their equipment. Build this situation into your corporate
entertainment music decisions.

How do you want the band to dress? It is a fun day after all! In the
past I and my musicians have dressed as Elvis, Cavemen, Circus Clowns,
in fact all manner of characters in the name of corporate entertainment
and corporate hospitality. Good bands will have suitable outfits for
most situations but don`t hesitate in providing something off the wall
for a special event. Most professional players have a strange urge to
jump into such costumes at the earliest possibility! As someone who has
played at a nudist camp and for a toga party, both dressed accordingly,
take my word for it!

To draw this article together let me say this. Choose the right kind
of music for the event. Brief the band accordingly but make sure you
have a professional and flexible outfit, things can change over the
course of the event and you want to make sure the band are both
co-operative and able to fulfill your needs. Don`t hesitate to ask the
band for any special requirements you have. Do it in plenty of time so
they have time to prepare.

The corporate entertainment and hospitality you offer to your guests
reflects directly onto your company. The music and musicians must be
the type who are aware of this. Dont go for second best just to save a
small amount of money. You need a well prepared, well dressed band who
are both polite and charming to your guests. They need to play the
right kind of music for the event in order to help make the day or
evenings corporate entertainment a resounding success!
