Historic MLB World Series Facts

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Americans took the field on the afternoon of October 1st, 1903 in the first “official” World Series of professional baseball. In the over 100 years since, only twice, in 1904 and 1994, has a World Series not been held. In 1904, New York Giants owner John T. Brush wouldn’t allow his team to play against the Boston Americans due to what he called the “inferiority” of the American League. The 1994 World Series was canceled due to the inability of the owners and the players association to approve a new collective bargaining agreement.

The New York Yankees have played in, and won more championships than any other franchise, with 27 titles in 40 appearances. The 27 championships far exceed the second-most winning franchise, the St. Louis Cardinals, who have won 10 titles. The Giants and Dodgers are tied for second-place in most appearances, with 18 apiece.

The Chicago Cubs, long the symbol for futility, have good reason to wear that label. It was 1908 when the Cubs last won a World Series championship, and 1945 since they last appeared in the Fall Classic. The Boston Red Sox snapped an 86-year drought when they won the 2004 World Series.

With the Yankees having so many appearances, they naturally hold the majority of the individual World Series records. Yogi Berra holds the record for most games, at-bats, hits, singles and doubles. Another Yankee legend, Joe DiMaggio, holds the dubious distinction of grounding into seven double plays in World Series play. Mickey Mantle has 18 home runs, 42 runs scored and 42 RBI’s, all records, while also holding the record for most strikeouts with 54. Current Yankee Mariano Rivera holds the record for most appearances by a pitcher, while Hall of Famer Whitey Ford holds the record for most games started by a pitcher, most wins, most losses and most innings pitched. The only perfect game in World Series history was with a Yankee on the mound, Don Larsen in the 1956 Classic.

The most memorable World Series moment of another Yankee legend, Babe Ruth, is probably his famous “called shot” against the Cubs in the 1932 World Series, but an earlier, less-than-memorable occurrence happened in Game Seven of the 1926 Series. With the Yankees trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, two outs and with Ruth on first base, Cardinals catcher Bob O’Farrell received the pitch, momentarily shocked to see Ruth attempting to steal second base, but he fired the ball to second baseman-manager Rogers Hornsby who applied the tag for out three.

Wireless equipment is now up to date in this technological world!!!

Wireless telecommunications, is the transfer of information between two or more points that are physically not connected. Distances can be short, as a few meters as in television remote control; or long ranging from thousands to millions of kilometers for deep-space radio communications. It encompasses various types of fixed, mobile, and portable two-way radios, cellular telephones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and wireless networking.

Other examples of wireless technology include GPS units, Garage door openers or garage doors, keyboards and Headset (telephone/computer), headphones, satellite television, broadcast television and cordless telephones. Choosing an Internet service provider (ISP) in Mumbai can sometimes be an overwhelming decision. Most offer a number of Internet access plans with various features. Nowadays wireless technologies are very famous and popular among the people and the modern researchers. It was established and came in the field of computer networking technologies from the last three years and today they are grown rapidly and become a very good and useful source of communication among the people and all the technologies of present era.

There are lots of wireless technologies now being into use which helps us to compete in the race of computer networking and be up to date in this technological World.

          ]]>

Due to the easy approach to the networks and also in many appliances of the daily life wireless technologies are of many types and almost all the technologies that are used in the present era for the sake of better working are designed wirelessly. Some important types of wireless technologies are as follows

WiFi is commonly called as wireless LAN, it is one of those networks in which high frequency radio waves are required for transmission of data from one place to another. WiFi operates on several hundreds feet between two places of data transmission. This technology only works on high frequency radio signals. Otherwise, it will not work properly. Nowadays this technology is used as office or home network and in many electronic devices. Wireless LAN or WiFi is divided into three main parts on which its whole working depends and all of its applications also depend on these parts i.e. infrastructure mode, ad hoc network and mixed network.

Zigbee Technology is one of such progression in wireless technology. Wireless is not a new technology as wireless networking and wireless internet are already in use; yet Zigbee technology set a new aspect in wireless technology. That’s why it’s usually referred as Zigbee Wireless Technology. Day by day advancement in technology is introducing novel and supportive devices which are used to make life easier and Zigbee Technology is one of them.

stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. is a telecommunications technology that offers transmission of wireless data via a number of transmission methods; such as portable or fully mobile internet access via point to multipoints links. The offers around 72 Mega Bits per second without any need for the cable infrastructure.

Other important type of wireless technology is the Bluetooth technology that is used to transmit the data from one device to another device with the help of mobile phone technology.

Wireless technology services in India will not take off until more relevant content is available. Even the Internet revolution failed to generate sufficient local content in India, and this is important if we want mobile data services to be widespread.

The 1912 World Series; the Hidden Rule

In the , the Boston Red Sox beat the New York Giants four games to three (with one tie).

This dramatic series showcased great pitching from Christy Mathewson and from Boston fireballler Smoky Joe Wood. Wood won two of his three starts and pitched in relief in the final game. In the deciding game, Boston rallied for two runs in the tenth inning thanks to two costly Giants fielding misplays.

Mathewson started three games, completed all three, compiled a 0.94 ERA for the Series, and got two losses and a no-decision for his efforts.

Nearly all of the games were close. Four games in this Series were decided by one run. A fifth ended in a tie. A sixth was decided by two runs. Game 7 was the only one with a margin greater than three runs. Two games, including the decisive Game 8, went to extra innings. In Games 1 and 3, the losing team had the tying and winning runs on base when the game ended.

This was the first Series in which a series was decided in the last inning of the final game, in “sudden death” or “sudden victory” fashion. It was also the first Series where a team within one inning of losing came back to win. The next time a team that close to elimination recovered to win was Game 6 of the 1985 World Series. Other World Series that have ended with a Game 7 (or in this case, Game 8, due to the tie) going to extra innings include the Series of 1924, 1991 and 1997. Other World Series won by the home team in its last at-bat in a Game 7 include the Series of 1960, 1991, 1997, and 2001.

          ]]>

This was one of only four World Series to go to eight games, and the only best-of-seven Series to do so. While the 1912 Series was extended to eight games due to a tie game being called on account of darkness, the 1903, 1919 and 1921 World Series were all best-of-nine affairs that happened to run eight games.

The 1912 Series was plagued by rumors that Game 7 was not played entirely honestly.[1] Some observers, including famed Boston sportswriter Tim Murnane, theorized that Wood’s terrible start and the Sox’s poor outing were deliberate. The idea was that the Red Sox threw the game in order to play another game to make up for the gate receipts they did not receive from Game 2. No proof was ever offered nor charges filed, but it was one more episode of public suspicion that would haunt several Series in the 1910s. Baseball’s problems with gambling did not come to a head until the infamous 1919 World Series and the Black Sox scandal. The charge that the Red Sox would have wanted Game 8 in order to increase their income is a weak accusation, because from the very beginning in 1903, the players have only earned Series money from the first four games. That rule exists precisely to prevent the kind of shenanigans suggested by the rumors. Wow! Thats a new one!

The First Modern World Series Championship

Major League Baseball played its first modern World Series in 1903. The two top competing teams were the Boston Americans against the Pittsburgh Pirates in a best-of-nine series. Boston, from the new American League, beat Pittsburgh five games to three outdoing the best of the National League and intensifying demand for future World Series competitions.

Before 1903 the winners of the National League and American Association had played in post-season games from 1884 to 1891. It was called “The Championship of the United States” and “World’s Championship Series” until the demise of the American Association in 1891. At that time matchups were disorganized compared to the modern World Series, and championships were awarded to the team with the best record at the end of the season. There were no post-season games and the overall champion was determined by the matchup between the National League and American Association in a series of games after the season ended.

After the collapse of the American Association, the National League became the only major league. In 1901 the American League was formed by Ban Johnson, president of a minor league organization. Johnson and fellow owners began to sign star players like future hall of fame pitcher, Cy Young, from the National League. Young had played in the American Association with the Cleveland Spiders before moving to the National League.

          ]]>

Thanks to a powerful line-up, the Pittsburgh Pirates had won their third straight pennant in 1903. Despite dominating their league for the previous three years, the team was plagued with injuries and problems going into the World Series. The Pirates had the superior offense and fielding but Boston was known for its strong pitching. Although the teams were generally thought to be evenly matched, Boston was considered the underdog of the Series.

Game 1 took place on October 1, 1903 at Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds in Boston, Massachusetts. The Pirates came on strong scoring six runs in the first four innings. The first home run in World Series history was made by Pittsburgh’s Jimmy Sebring in the seventh inning. Boston tried to make a comeback but lost the opener by a score of 7-3.

In Game 2 the Pirates shut down offensively getting only three hit singles. Boston won the game 3-0 with help from Patsy Dougherty’s two home runs and pitcher Bill Dinneen who pitched a complete game and struck out eleven. The Pirates came back in Game 3 as pitcher Deacon Phillippe put Pittsburgh up two games to one.

Game 4 of the Series was played at Exposition Park (III) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Once again Deacon Phillippe did his magic against Boston pitcher Bill Dinneen as the Pirates took a 3-1 series lead. Boston did rally at the top of the ninth to bring the game to within one run, but lost 5-4. Game 5 would see a pitcher’s duel for the first five innings as Boston’s Cy Young and Pittburgh’s Brickyard Kennedy did not give up any runs. The Americans managed to score six runs in the top of the sixth inning as Young kept the Pirates to only two runs at the bottom of the eighth. Boston went on to win the game 11-2.

Boston tied the series at three games apiece with their 6-3 victory over Pittsburgh in Game 6. Pitcher Cy Young held the Pirates to only three runs in Game 7 as Boston defeated the Pirates 7-3 in the final game in Pittsburgh. The final game of the inaugural World Series was played in Massachusetts as Boston pitcher Bill Dinneen outpitched Deacon Phillippe to shutout the Pirates with a 3-0 victory to end the Series.

The Boston Americans came back from a 3-1 game deficit and won the final four games to win the first modern World Series in Major League Baseball. The game would not see another comeback like that until the 1925 World Series when the Pirates came back to defeat the Washington Senators.

Guitar Hero World Tour Troubleshooting

Unlike a baby grand piano, you can easily pack your guitar around on your shoulder in a carrying case. Guitar Hero World Tour TroubleshootingI bought my first guitar when I was a sophomore in high school. It was a Stella, purchased for twenty-nine dollars from George Porcella, the proprietor of Porcella’s Music Store in Gilroy, California. Since then, I have owned, sold, traded, pawned or lost a dozen or so more.

My love for the guitar soared in 1978 when I first heard world-renown classical guitar master Andres Segovia’s The Intimate Guitar album. I listened to it on the recommendation of a teacher I had just begun taking classical lessons from in Santa Cruz. Capitalizing on the guitar’s ability to produce both melodic and harmonic sound, Segovia was able to make his guitar sound like two separate instruments. In addition to being the world’s most recognized classical performer, Segovia did much throughout his life to increase the popularity of his beloved instrument. He produced instruction books and materials, transcribed classical music to fit the guitar and held concerts, seminars and workshops throughout the world.

Prior to that time I began studying classical guitar, I had been able to play folk and country songs in the style of Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul and Mary, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson using three simple chords. My newly learned music theory, coupled with a more developed ear, opened up a new world of learning and enjoyment for me. The right and left hand techniques used in guitar playing gave my body a better sense of balance and integration than playing a wind or brass instrument.

Play EXISTING riffs and patterns with speed and accuracy click here

The guitar offers players the opportunity to experiment with techniques and create different styles and picking patterns, from Flamingo to Travis picking. Likewise, you can change and invent new musical styles by changing the type or thickness of your strings. You can also change guitar types from a classical nylon string, to a steel string acoustic. Electric pick-ups as well as electric guitars with amps and foot pedal attachments allow the player to increase volume and add special sound effects. Guitars can be played with a pick or with a variety of finger-pickings styles.

          ]]>

Still, the guitar has other has advantages too. Unlike most brass and wind instruments, you can play complex four, five and six note chords on a guitar. Although the use of a capo is frowned on by classical players, its use in other styles gives players the unique ability to quickly change keys to adjust to a singers vocal range or preferences.

This versatile instrument is also one of the few you hold over your heart. To the serious player like myself, this not only enhances the tone you produce from the strings, but makes your playing one with your voice.
